我实在告诉你们，妇人所生的，没有一个比施洗的约翰更大；然而天国里最小的比他还大。

耶稣转过身来，悄悄地对门徒说：“看见你们所看见的，那眼睛有福了！我告诉你们，曾经有许多先知和君王，想看你们所看见的，却没有看到；想听你们所听见的，却没有听到。”

“你们的眼睛是有福的，因为可以看见；你们的耳朵是有福的，因为可以听见。我实在告诉你们，曾经有许多先知和义人想看你们所看见的，却没有看到，想听你们所听见的，却没有听到。

我照着神为你们而赐给我的管家职分，作了教会的仆役，要把神的道，就是历世历代隐藏的奥秘，传得完备。现在这奥秘已经向他的众圣徒显明了。

我本来比圣徒中最小的还小，神还是赐给我这恩典，要我把基督那测不透的丰富传给外族人，并且使众人明白那奥秘的救世计划是什么（这奥秘是历代以来隐藏在创造万有的神里面的），

约翰对众人说：“我用水给你们施洗，但那能力比我更大的要来，我就是给他解鞋带都没有资格。他要用圣灵与火给你们施洗。

论到这救恩，那预言你们要得恩典的众先知，都寻求考察过，就是把他们心里基督的灵所预先见证，关于基督要受苦难后来得荣耀，是在什么时候和怎样的情况加以考察。他们蒙了启示，为这些事效力，并不是为自己，而是为你们。现在，藉着传福音给你们的人，靠着从天上差来的圣灵，把这些事传给了你们；甚至天使也很想详细察看这些事。

对他们说：“凡因我的名接待这小孩子的，就是接待我；凡接待我的，就是接待那差我来的。谁是你们中间最小的，那人就是最大的。”

你必欢喜快乐，许多人因他出生，也必喜乐。他在主面前要被尊为大，淡酒浓酒都不喝，未出母腹就被圣灵充满。

所有这些人都藉着信得了称许，却还没有得着所应许的；因为神已经为我们预备了更美的事，使他们若不跟我们在一起，就不能完全。
