我有此意，难道是反覆不定吗？难道我的意愿是从私欲起的，以致我忽是忽非吗？我指着信实的神说，我们向你们所传的道并非又是又非的。因为，我、西拉和提摩太在你们中间传神的儿子耶稣基督，从没有“又是又非”的；在他只有一个“是”。神的应许，不论有多少，在基督都是“是”的。所以，我们藉着他说“阿们”，使神因我们得荣耀。

只要凭着信心求，一点也不疑惑；因为那疑惑的人，就像海中的波浪被风吹动翻腾。这样的人不要想从主那里得到什么。三心二意的人，在他一切所行的路上都摇摆不定。

在那些日子，施洗的约翰出来，在犹太的旷野宣讲：“你们要悔改！因为天国近了。”这人就是以赛亚先知所说的：“在旷野有声音呼喊着：预备主的道，修直他的路。”这约翰身穿骆驼毛的衣服，腰束皮带，吃的是蝗虫和野蜜。那时，耶路撒冷、全犹太和全约旦河地区的人，都到约翰那里去，

这些人是无水的泉源，是狂风催逼的雾气，有漆黑的幽暗为他们存留。

他说：“我就是那在旷野呼喊的声音：修直主的道。”正如以赛亚先知所说的。

照这话，施洗约翰来到旷野，宣讲悔改的洗礼，使罪得赦。犹太全地和全耶路撒冷的人都出去，到约翰那里，承认他们的罪，在约旦河里受他的洗。

你却放纵如水，必不得居首位；因为你上了你父亲的床，你上了我的榻，污辱了它！

他们一走，耶稣就对众人谈到约翰，说：“你们从前到旷野去，是要看什么呢？看风吹动的芦苇吗？你们出去到底是要看什么？看穿细软衣服的人吗？那穿细软衣服的人是在王宫里。
