那孩子漸漸長大，靈裡剛強。他住在曠野，直到他向以色列公開出現的那天。

亞納和該亞法任大祭司——那時，神的話語在曠野臨到撒迦利亞的兒子約翰。

這樣，我們就不再是小孩子，在人的狡詐和詭計中陷入那迷惑人的騙局，被各種教義之風搖動，飄來飄去。

因此，各位蒙愛的人哪，你們既然預先知道了這些，就應該警惕，免得被那些惡人的迷惑引入歧途，從自己堅固的地步墜落。

那麼，我這樣打算，難道就是輕率行事嗎？難道我所計劃的，是順著肉體的計劃，以致在我忽是忽非嗎？神是信實的，我們向你們傳的話語，並沒有「是」而又「非」。要知道，藉著我們，就是我、賽拉斯和提摩太，在你們中間所傳揚的神兒子耶穌基督，並沒有「是」而又「非」；相反，在他只有「是」，因為神的一切應許，在基督裡都成為「是」。所以，說「阿們」也是藉著基督，使榮耀藉著我們歸於神。

不過他要憑著信仰祈求，不要有任何疑惑，因為疑惑的人就像海中的波浪，被風吹動翻騰。這樣的人不要想從主那裡得到什麼，他是心懷二意的人，在他所有的道路上都搖擺不定。

在那些日子裡，施洗者約翰來了，在猶太的曠野傳道，說：「你們應當悔改，因為天國近了。」這約翰就是藉著先知以賽亞所說的那個人。以賽亞說：「在曠野有聲音呼喊著：『你們當預備主的道，當修直他的路！』」約翰穿著駱駝毛做的衣服，腰束皮帶。他的食物是蝗蟲和野蜜。那時，耶路撒冷、全猶太地區和整個約旦河一帶的人，都出來到他那裡，

這些人是無水的泉源，是被暴風吹逐的雲霧；有漆黑的幽暗為他們存留。

約翰說：「正如先知以賽亞所說的，我就是在曠野裡呼喊的聲音：『你們當修直主的道。』」

於是約翰就來了。他在曠野施洗，並宣講為罪得赦免而悔改的洗禮。全猶太地區和整個耶路撒冷的人，都出來到他那裡，承認自己的罪孽，在約旦河裡受他的洗禮。

你卻放縱如水，必不再出眾；因為你上了你父親的床，把床玷汙了。他居然上了我的床鋪！

約翰的門徒們走了，耶穌就開始對眾人談論約翰，說：「你們曾經到曠野去，是要觀看什麼呢？一根被風吹動的蘆葦嗎？你們出去，究竟是要看什麼呢？一個身穿細軟衣服的人嗎？看哪，那些穿細軟衣服的人在王宮裡。
