如望使徒既返、耶穌向眾論如望曰：『曩者爾赴曠野、欲何睹乎？其飄搖風中之蘆葦乎？

After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John:“ What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

So John’s messengers left. Then Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John. He said,“ What did you go out into the desert to see? Tall grass waving in the wind?

When John’s messengers had gone, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John:“ What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

After John’s disciples left, Jesus began talking about him to the crowds.“ What kind of man did you go into the wilderness to see? Was he a weak reed, swayed by every breath of wind?

After John’s messengers left, he began to speak to the crowds about John:“ What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?

這孩子漸漸長大，心靈健壯，住在曠野，直到他在以色列人中公開露面的日子。

亞那和該亞法作大祭司的時候，神的話臨到撒迦利亞的兒子，在曠野的約翰。

使我們不再作小孩子，中了人的詭計和騙人的手段，給異教之風搖撼，飄來飄去，

所以，親愛的，你們既然預先知道了，就要謹慎，免得受惡人的錯謬引導，就從自己堅固的地步上墜落。

我這樣決定，難道是反覆不定嗎？我所決定的，難道是體貼肉體而定，使我忽是忽非嗎？神是信實的，我們向你們所傳的道並不是“是”而又“非”的，因為我、西拉和提摩太，在你們中間所宣揚的耶穌基督，神的兒子，並不是“是”而又“非”的，在他總是“是”的。因為神的一切應許，在基督裡都是“是”的，為此我們藉著他說“阿們”，使榮耀歸於神。

可是，他應該憑著信心祈求，不要有疑惑；因為疑惑的人，就像被風吹蕩翻騰的海浪。那樣的人，不要想從主得到甚麼；因為三心兩意的人，在他的一切道路上，都搖擺不定。

那時，施洗的約翰出來，在猶太的曠野傳道，說：“天國近了，你們應當悔改。”以賽亞先知所說：“在曠野有呼喊者的聲音：‘預備主的道，修直他的路！’”就是指著這約翰說的。約翰身穿駱駝毛的衣服，腰束皮帶，吃的是蝗蟲和野蜜。耶路撒冷、猶太全地和約旦河一帶的人都出來到他那裡去，

這些人是無水的泉源，是暴風催逼的霧氣，有漆黑的幽暗為他們存留。

他說：“我就是在曠野呼喊者的聲音：‘修直主的路！’正如以賽亞先知所說的。”

照這話，施洗的約翰在曠野出現了，傳講悔改的洗禮，使罪得赦。猶太全地和全耶路撒冷的人，都出來到他那裡去，承認自己的罪，在約旦河裡受了他的洗。

但是你放縱情慾，好像水沸騰一樣，你必不能居首位；因為你上了你父親的床；上了我的榻，然後把它玷污了。

他們走了之後，耶穌對群眾講起約翰來，說：“你們到曠野去，是要看甚麼？被風吹動的蘆葦嗎？你們出去到底要看甚麼？身穿華麗衣裳的人嗎？那些穿著華麗衣裳的人，是在王宮裡的。
