“你起來，往西頓的撒勒法去，住在那裡；我已經吩咐那裡的一個寡婦供養你。”

眾人都在為女孩痛哭哀號，他說：“不要哭！她不是死了，而是睡著了。”

於是婦人對以利亞說：“神人哪，我跟你有甚麼關係呢？你竟到我這裡來，使耶和華想起我的罪孽，殺死我的兒子。”

在父神看來，純潔無玷污的虔誠，就是照顧患難中的孤兒寡婦，並且保守自己不被世俗所污染。

“我必把那恩慈與懇求的靈傾注在大衛家和耶路撒冷居民的身上。他們必仰望我，就是他們所刺的；他們要為他哀哭，好像喪獨生子；他們必為他悲痛，好像喪長子。

將要滅亡的，為我祝福；我使寡婦的心歡呼。

神說：“帶著你的兒子，就是你所愛的獨生子以撒，到摩利亞地去，在我所要指示你的一座山上，把他獻為燔祭。”

以利亞把孩子抱起來，從樓上下到屋子裡去，把孩子交給他的母親；以利亞說：“看，你的兒子活了！”

看哪！現在全家族的人都起來攻擊婢女，說：‘你要把那擊殺他兄弟的兇手交出來，好讓我們把他處死，以償他兄弟的命，也可以滅絕那繼承產業的。’這樣他們要使我所剩下的炭火也都熄滅了，不讓我丈夫在這世上留下名字，或留下後代。”

有許多猶太人來到馬大和馬利亞那裡，為了拉撒路的死來安慰她們。
