耶稣进了迦百农，有一个百夫长进前来，求他，说：“主啊，我的僮仆瘫痪了，躺在家里，非常痛苦。”耶稣说：“我去医治他。”百夫长回答：“主啊，你到舍下来，我不敢当；只要你说一句话，我的僮仆就会痊愈。因为我在人的权下，也有兵在我以下。我对这个说：‘去！’他就去；对那个说：‘来！’他就来；对我的仆人说：‘做这事！’他就去做。”耶稣听了就很惊讶，对跟从的人说：“我实在告诉你们，这么大的信心，就是在以色列，我也没有见过。我又告诉你们，从东从西，将有许多人来，在天国里与亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各一同坐席；本国的子民反而被赶到外边黑暗里去，在那里要哀哭切齿了。”耶稣对百夫长说：“你回去吧！照你的信心成全你了。”就在那时，他的僮仆好了。

耶稣对百姓讲完了这一切的话，就进了迦百农。有一个百夫长所器重的仆人害病，快要死了。百夫长风闻耶稣的事，就托犹太人的几个长老去求耶稣来救他的仆人。他们到了耶稣那里，切切地求他说：“你为他做这事是他配得的；因为他爱我们的民族，为我们建造会堂。”耶稣就和他们同去。离那家不远，百夫长托几个朋友去见耶稣，对他说：“主啊，不必劳驾，因你到舍下来，我不敢当。我也自以为不配去见你，只要你说一句话，就会让我的僮仆得痊愈。因为我被派在人的权下，也有兵在我之下。我对这个说：‘去！’他就去；对那个说：‘来！’他就来；对我的仆人说：‘做这事！’他就去做。”耶稣听到这些话，就很惊讶，转身对跟随的众人说：“我告诉你们，这么大的信心，就是在以色列，我也没有见过。”那差来的人回到百夫长家里，发现仆人已经好了。

耶稣讲完了这些话，众人对他的教导都感到惊奇，因为他教导他们正像有权柄的人，不像他们的文士。
