They are saying,“ Come on, let’s publicly denounce him!” All my so-called friends are just watching for something that would lead to my downfall. They say,“ Perhaps he can be enticed into slipping up, so we can prevail over him and get our revenge on him.

Then they said to him,“ What did he do to you? How did he cause you to see?”He answered,“ I told you already and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You people don’t want to become his disciples too, do you?”They heaped insults on him, saying,“ You are his disciple! We are disciples of Moses!We know that God has spoken to Moses! We do not know where this man comes from!”

Those who seek my life try to entrap me; those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things.

Then some of the Pharisees began to say,“ This man is not from God, because he does not observe the Sabbath.” But others said,“ How can a man who is a sinner perform such miraculous signs?” Thus there was a division among them.

So the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed,“ It is the Sabbath, and you are not permitted to carry your mat.”But he answered them,“ The man who made me well said to me,‘ Pick up your mat and walk.’”They asked him,“ Who is the man who said to you,‘ Pick up your mat and walk’?”But the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped out, since there was a crowd in that place.After this Jesus found him at the temple and said to him,“ Look, you have become well. Don’t sin any more, lest anything worse happen to you.”The man went away and informed the Jewish leaders that Jesus was the one who had made him well.Now because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began persecuting him.
