我聽見了許多人的讒誹；四圍盡是恐怖！『告發他！我們要告發他！』我的一切盟友，那些等着瞧我顛沛的說：『或者他被誘騙，我們就能勝過他，而在他身上得報復。』

於是他們對他說：『他向你作了甚麼？怎麼開了你的眼呢？』他回答他們說：『我已經告訴了你們，你們不聽；為甚麼又想要聽呢？莫非你們也想要做他的門徒麼？』他們就辱罵他說：『你、是那個人的門徒，我們、乃是摩西的門徒。我們知道上帝對摩西說過話；只是這個人呢、我們不知道他是從哪裏來的啊。』

尋索我命的設下網羅；謀求要害我的、直講毁滅的事，終日沉思着詭詐。

於是法利賽人中有的說：『這個人不是從上帝來的，因為他不守安息日。』另有人說：『一個有罪的人怎能行這樣的神迹呢？』他們中間就起了分裂。

於是猶太人對那得治好的人說：『今天是安息日，你拿鋪蓋是不可以的。』他卻回答他們說：『使我得康健的那個人對我說：「拿起你的鋪蓋來，走路吧。」』他們就詰問他說：『那對你說「拿起來走路」的人是誰？』那得醫治的人不知道他是誰，因為在那地方有一大羣人，耶穌已經退避開了。這些事以後，耶穌遇見那人在殿裏，就對他說：『你看，你已經得了康健，別再犯罪了，免得患的更厲害。』那人就去告訴猶太人說、那使他康健的是耶穌。故此猶太人逼迫耶穌，因為他在安息日作了這些事。
