But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

But here is what happens when people listen to my words and do not obey them. They are like a man who builds a house on soft ground instead of solid rock. The moment the river rushes against that house, it falls down. It is completely destroyed.”

But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

One who walks blamelessly will receive help, But one who is crooked will fall all at once.

“ The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the sky ate it up.Other seed fell on rocky soil, and when it came up, it withered away because it had no moisture.Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.

For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be for nothing.

They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be evident that they all are not of us.

and yet they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution occurs because of the word, immediately they fall away.

Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,and in your knowledge, self control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they do not make you useless nor unproductive in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.For the one who lacks these qualities is blind or short sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

“ Now when the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it.Then it says,‘ I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.Then it goes and brings along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they come in and live there; and the last condition of that person becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.”

But he replied,‘ I do not want to.’ Yet afterward he regretted it and went.And the man came to his second son and said the same thing; and he replied,‘ I will, sir’; and yet he did not go.

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We do not want this man to reign over us.’

The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the word, immediately he falls away.And the one sown with seed among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.But someone may well say,“ You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.But are you willing to acknowledge, you foolish person, that faith without works is useless?Was our father Abraham not justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar?You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;and the Scripture was fulfilled which says,“ And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God.You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.In the same way, was Rahab the prostitute not justified by works also when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

I say to you, it will be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that city.“ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that occurred in you had occurred in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades!“ The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; but the one who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accordance with his will, will receive many blows,

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves.For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does.If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and since I was extremely enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities.

I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;

“ As for the message that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you!But we will certainly carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, by burning sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, just as we ourselves, our forefathers, our kings, and our leaders did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well off and saw no misfortune.

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

“ Now why do you call Me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

And at that time many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another.

I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, Or your brides when they commit adultery, Because the men themselves slip away with the prostitutes And offer sacrifices with temple prostitutes; So the people without understanding are ruined.
