“ But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you.

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

“ Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.

Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall; don’t be happy when they stumble.

If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink.You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the Lord will reward you.

“ You have heard the law that says,‘ Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy.But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone— especially to those in the family of faith.

“ If you come upon your enemy’s ox or donkey that has strayed away, take it back to its owner.If you see that the donkey of someone who hates you has collapsed under its load, do not walk by. Instead, stop and help.

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,“ I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord.Instead,“ If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

Then he added,“ Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given— and you will receive even more.

“ Have I ever rejoiced when disaster struck my enemies, or become excited when harm came their way?No, I have never sinned by cursing anyone or by asking for revenge.“ My servants have never said,‘ He let others go hungry.’

What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.

And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

He fell to his knees, shouting,“ Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them.
