Some of the Pharisees asked,“ Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”

Some of the Pharisees said,“ It is against the Law to do this on the Sabbath day. Why are you doing it?”

But some Pharisees said,“ Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”

The scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against him.But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand,“ Rise up, and stand in the middle.” He arose and stood.Then Jesus said to them,“ I will ask you something: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?”

“ If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured, or driven away, no man seeing it;

They said to him,“ Why do John’s disciples often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?”

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!

“ Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat bread.”

Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to Yahweh. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death.

While the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day.Those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation.They put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.Yahweh said to Moses,“ The man shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him with stones outside of the camp.”

It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them,“ He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”Some therefore of the Pharisees said,“ This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said,“ How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” There was division among them.
