基督在他肉身的日子里，曾经用强烈的呼号和泪水，向能救他脱离死亡的那一位献上了祈祷和恳求，就因着他的虔诚蒙了垂听。

但以理知道这文书已经签署了，回到自己的家里——他阁楼上的窗户朝耶路撒冷开着——仍然一天三次双膝跪下，在他的神面前祷告、感谢，就像以前那样做。

对他们说：“我的灵魂很忧伤，几乎要死。你们留在这里，要警醒。”耶稣稍往前走，俯伏在地，祷告说，如果有可能，让那时刻离开他。他说：“阿爸！父啊！在你，没有不可能的事，请把这杯从我这里拿走吧！但不要照我的意愿，而要照你的意愿。”

至于你，你祷告的时候，要进入你的内室，关上门，向你在隐秘中的父祷告。这样，你那在隐秘中察看的父就将回报你。

用仇恨的话语围攻我，又无故与我争战；他们用控告来回报我的爱，但我不断地祷告。

我的神哪，我白天呼求，你不回应；我在夜间也得不到安宁！

愿死亡突然毁灭他们，愿他们活活下到阴间！因为恶事在他们的住处，就在他们当中。至于我，我要向神呼求，耶和华必拯救我。傍晚、清晨、正午，我都要悲诉哀鸣，他必垂听我的声音。

最后雅各独自留下。那夜，有一个人与雅各摔跤，直到黎明。那人见自己胜不过他，就碰了他的大腿窝；于是雅各与那人摔跤的时候，大腿窝就脱节了。那人说：“天亮了，让我走吧！”雅各说：“你不祝福我，我就不让你走。”
