有一次，在安息日，耶穌從麥田經過，他的門徒一面走路，一面摘麥穗。法利賽人對耶穌說：“你看，他們為甚麼作安息日不可作的事？”耶穌對他們說：“大衛和跟他一起的人在飢餓缺食的時候所作的，你們沒有念過嗎？他不是在亞比亞他作大祭司的時候，進了神的殿，吃了除祭司以外誰都不可以吃的陳設餅，而且還給跟他在一起的人吃嗎？”耶穌又告訴他們：“安息日是為人設立的，人並不是為安息日設立的。這樣，人子也是安息日的主。”

安息日那天，耶穌從麥田經過；他的門徒餓了，就摘了些麥穗來吃。法利賽人看見了，就對他說：“你看，你的門徒作了安息日不可作的事。”耶穌對他們說：“大衛和跟他在一起的人，在飢餓的時候所作的，你們沒有念過嗎？他不是進了神的殿，吃了他和跟他在一起的人不可以吃，只有祭司才可以吃的陳設餅嗎？律法書上記著：安息日，祭司在殿裡供職，觸犯了安息日，也不算有罪；你們也沒有念過嗎？我告訴你們，這裡有一位是比聖殿更大的。如果你們明白‘我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀’這句話的意思，就不會把無罪的定罪了。因為人子是安息日的主。”

第一天應當有聖會，甚麼勞碌的工你們都不可作。

“你要告訴以色列人，對他們說：你們到了我賜給你們的地，收割莊稼的時候，要把初熟莊稼的一捆帶到祭司那裡。他要在耶和華面前搖禾捆，在安息日的次日把它搖一搖，使你們蒙悅納。

“你們要吃無酵餅七天；可是第一天就要把酵從你們的家中除去；因為從第一日起直到第七日，凡吃有酵之物的，那人必從以色列中被除滅。

“你們要從安息日的次日，把禾捆帶來作搖祭那日起，計算整整七個星期；

“你要計算七個七日，從開鐮收割禾稼的時候算起，共計七個七日。
