Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”He answered,“ Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread— which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.If you had known what these words mean,‘ I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” (niv)

On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. (niv)

“ Speak to the Israelites and say to them:‘ When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest.He is to wave the sheaf before the Lord so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. (niv)

For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel. (niv)

“‘ From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. (niv)
