法利賽人與其士子咎門徒曰、爾曹胡為與稅吏罪人飲食乎、

經士及法利賽人、譏耶穌門徒曰、爾曹何與稅吏及罪人共食乎、

法利塞人與經生見而不悅、謂耶穌門徒曰：『爾等胡為與稅吏罪人共席？』

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples,“ Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

於是大大地爭吵起來；有幾個法利賽派的文士站起來爭辯說：「我們看不出這人有甚麼錯處；說不定有鬼魂或者天使對他說過話呢！」

請耶穌的法利賽人看見這事，心裏說：「這人若是先知，一定知道摸他的是誰，是個怎樣的女人；她是個罪人哪！」

法利賽人和所有的猶太人都拘守古人的傳統，若不按規矩洗手就不吃飯；

且對人說：『你站開吧！不要挨近我，因為我對你來說太神聖了。』這些人惹我鼻中冒煙，如終日燃燒的火。

文士和法利賽人就開始議論說：「這個人是誰，竟說褻瀆的話？除了上帝一位之外，誰能赦罪呢？」

眾人看見，都私下議論說：「他竟然到罪人家裏去住宿。」

法利賽人獨自站着，自言自語地禱告說：『上帝啊，我感謝你，我不像別人勒索、不義、姦淫，也不像這個稅吏。

有一天，耶穌教導人，有法利賽人和律法教師在旁邊坐着；他們是從加利利各鄉村、猶太和耶路撒冷來的。主的能力與耶穌同在，使他能治好病人。

「有一件事，你們的意見如何？一個人有兩個兒子。他來對大兒子說：『孩子，今天到葡萄園裏做工去。』他回答：『我不去』，以後自己懊悔，就去了。他來對小兒子也是這樣說。他回答：『父親大人，我去』，卻不去。這兩個兒子是哪一個照着父親的意願做了呢？」他們說：「大兒子。」耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，稅吏和娼妓倒比你們先進上帝的國。因為約翰到你們這裏來指引你們走義路，你們卻不信他，稅吏和娼妓倒信了他。你們看見了以後，還是不悔悟去信他。」

許多稅吏和罪人都挨近耶穌，要聽他講道。法利賽人和文士私下議論說：「這個人接納罪人，又同他們吃飯。」

眾百姓和稅吏已受過約翰的洗，聽見這話，就以上帝為義；但法利賽人和律法師沒有受過約翰的洗，竟廢棄了上帝為他們所定的旨意。

人子來，也吃也喝，你們又說這人貪食好酒，是稅吏和罪人的朋友。
