經士及法利賽人、譏耶穌門徒曰、爾曹何與稅吏及罪人共食乎、

法利塞人與經生見而不悅、謂耶穌門徒曰：『爾等胡為與稅吏罪人共席？』

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples,“ Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

於是眾人大嚷大鬧，有幾個法利賽派的經學家站起來辯論說：“我們看不出這個人作過甚麼壞事；說不定有靈或天使對他說過話。”

請他的法利賽人看見了，心裡說：“這人若是先知，必定知道摸他的是誰，是怎樣的女人，因為她是個罪人！”

（原來法利賽人和所有的猶太人都拘守古人的傳統，如果不認真洗手，就不吃東西；

並且對人說：“你站遠一點！不要挨近我，因為我會使你聖潔。”主說：“這些人是我鼻中的煙，是整天燒著的火。

經學家和法利賽人就議論起來，說：“這人是誰，竟然說僭妄的話？除神一位以外，誰能赦罪呢？”

眾人看見就紛紛議論說：“他竟到罪人家裡去住宿！”

法利賽人站著，禱告給自己聽，這樣說：‘神啊，我感謝你，我不像別人，勒索、不義、姦淫，也不像這個稅吏。

有一天，耶穌正在教導人，法利賽人和律法教師也坐在那裡，他們是從加利利和猶太各鄉村，並耶路撒冷來的；主的能力與他同在，叫他能醫病。

“你們認為怎樣？有一個人，他有兩個兒子。他去對大兒子說：‘孩子，你今天到葡萄園去工作吧。’他說：‘我不想去。’但後來他改變主意，就去了。父親又照樣去吩咐小兒子。小兒子說：‘父親，我會去的。’後來卻沒有去。這兩個兒子，哪一個聽父親的話呢？”他們說：“大兒子。”耶穌對他們說：“我實在告訴你們：稅吏和娼妓比你們先進神的國。約翰來到你們那裡，指示你們行義路﹙或譯：“約翰在義路中，來到你們這裡”。﹚，你們不信他；稅吏和娼妓卻信了他。你們看見了之後，還是沒有改變心意去信他。

眾稅吏和罪人，都接近耶穌，要聽他講道。法利賽人和經學家，紛紛議論說：“這個人接待罪人，又和他們一起吃飯。”

眾人和稅吏受過約翰的洗禮，聽見這話，就稱神為義。但法利賽人和律法師，未受過約翰的洗禮，就拒絕神對他們的美意。

人子來了，又吃又喝，你們說：‘你看，這人貪食好酒，與稅吏和罪人為友。’
