經士及法利賽人、譏耶穌門徒曰、爾曹何與稅吏及罪人共食乎、

法利塞人與經生見而不悅、謂耶穌門徒曰：『爾等胡為與稅吏罪人共席？』

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples,“ Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

于是众人大嚷大闹，有几个法利赛派的经学家站起来辩论说：“我们看不出这个人作过什么坏事；说不定有灵或天使对他说过话。”

请他的法利赛人看见了，心里说：“这人若是先知，必定知道摸他的是谁，是怎样的女人，因为她是个罪人！”

（原来法利赛人和所有的犹太人都拘守古人的传统，如果不认真洗手，就不吃东西；

并且对人说：“你站远一点！不要挨近我，因为我会使你圣洁。”主说：“这些人是我鼻中的烟，是整天烧着的火。

经学家和法利赛人就议论起来，说：“这人是谁，竟然说僭妄的话？除神一位以外，谁能赦罪呢？”

众人看见就纷纷议论说：“他竟到罪人家里去住宿！”

法利赛人站着，祷告给自己听，这样说：‘神啊，我感谢你，我不像别人，勒索、不义、奸淫，也不像这个税吏。

有一天，耶稣正在教导人，法利赛人和律法教师也坐在那里，他们是从加利利和犹太各乡村，并耶路撒冷来的；主的能力与他同在，叫他能医病。

“你们认为怎样？有一个人，他有两个儿子。他去对大儿子说：‘孩子，你今天到葡萄园去工作吧。’他说：‘我不想去。’但后来他改变主意，就去了。父亲又照样去吩咐小儿子。小儿子说：‘父亲，我会去的。’后来却没有去。这两个儿子，哪一个听父亲的话呢？”他们说：“大儿子。”耶稣对他们说：“我实在告诉你们：税吏和娼妓比你们先进神的国。约翰来到你们那里，指示你们行义路﹙或译：“约翰在义路中，来到你们这里”。﹚，你们不信他；税吏和娼妓却信了他。你们看见了之后，还是没有改变心意去信他。

众税吏和罪人，都接近耶稣，要听他讲道。法利赛人和经学家，纷纷议论说：“这个人接待罪人，又和他们一起吃饭。”

众人和税吏受过约翰的洗礼，听见这话，就称神为义。但法利赛人和律法师，未受过约翰的洗礼，就拒绝神对他们的美意。

人子来了，又吃又喝，你们说：‘你看，这人贪食好酒，与税吏和罪人为友。’
