众人大声喧嚷，有几个法利赛派的律法教师站起来争辩说：“我们找不出这人有什么错处，也许真的有灵或天使跟他说过话。”

请耶稣的法利赛人看在眼里，心想：“如果这人真的是先知，就该知道摸祂的是谁，是个什么样的女人，她是个罪人。”

因为法利赛人和所有的犹太人都拘守祖先的传统，总是先照礼仪洗手之后才吃饭；

还对人说，‘站远点，别挨近我，因为我比你圣洁！’我被这些人气得鼻孔冒烟，整天怒火难息。

那些法利赛人和律法教师开始议论起来：“这个说话亵渎上帝的人是谁啊？除了上帝以外，谁能够赦罪？”

百姓见状，都埋怨说：“祂怎么到一个罪人家里作客？”

法利赛人站在那里自言自语地祷告说，‘上帝啊！我感谢你，因为我不像别人那样勒索、不义、通奸，也不像这税吏。

有一天，耶稣在教导人，旁边坐着来自加利利、犹太和耶路撒冷各地的法利赛人和律法教师，主的能力伴随着耶稣，使祂能医治病人。

耶稣又说：“你们怎样看这件事？某人有两个儿子。他对大儿子说，‘孩子，你今天到葡萄园工作吧！’“大儿子回答说，‘我不去！’但后来他改变了主意，就去了。“那父亲又对小儿子说，‘你今天到葡萄园工作吧！’小儿子回答说，‘好的，父亲。’他答应了，却没有去。“你们认为这两个儿子，到底哪一个服从父亲呢？”他们回答道：“大儿子。”耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们，税吏和娼妓要比你们先进上帝的国。因为约翰来指示你们当行的正路，你们不信他，但税吏和娼妓信了。你们亲眼看见了这些事，竟然还是执迷不悟，不肯信他。

许多税吏和罪人都来听耶稣讲道，法利赛人和律法教师埋怨说：“这个人竟和罪人来往，还跟他们一起吃饭。”

众百姓和税吏听了这番话，都承认上帝是公义的，因为他们接受了约翰的洗礼。但那些法利赛人和律法教师没有接受约翰的洗礼，拒绝了上帝为他们所定的旨意。

人子来了，又吃又喝，你们就说，‘看啊，祂是个贪吃好酒之徒，与税吏和罪人为友！’
