The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves,“ Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

“ I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.

Then they secretly induced men to say,“ We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”And they stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes; and they came upon him, seized him, and brought him to the council.They also set up false witnesses who said,“ This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law;

And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves,“ Who is this who even forgives sins?”

The Jews answered Him, saying,“ For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”

Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying,“ He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!

I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said,“ I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,“ Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”

Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

And at once some of the scribes said within themselves,“ This Man blasphemes!”

“ Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord,“ Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.

Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed,“ The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

and seat two men, scoundrels, before him to bear witness against him, saying,“ You have blasphemed God and the king.” Then take him out, and stone him, that he may die.So the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth with high honor among the people.And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying,“ Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!” Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died.Then they sent to Jezebel, saying,“ Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”

Let them be like chaff before the wind, And let the angel of the Lord chase them.

And whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the Lord, he shall be put to death.

Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.

To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.
