But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves,“ Who is this, who even forgives sins?”

The Jewish leaders replied,“ We are not going to stone you for a good deed but for blasphemy, because you, a man, are claiming to be God.”

Then the high priest tore his clothes and declared,“ He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Now you have heard the blasphemy!

Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said,“ I will confess my rebellious acts to the LORD.” And then you forgave my sins.( Selah)

Now some of the experts in the law were sitting there, turning these things over in their minds:“ Why does this man speak this way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

I remove the guilt of your rebellious deeds as if they were a cloud, the guilt of your sins as if they were a cloud. Come back to me, for I protect you.”

Now on one of those days, while he was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting nearby( who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem), and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.

Then some of the experts in the law said to themselves,“ This man is blaspheming!”

Come, let’s consider your options,” says the LORD.“ Though your sins have stained you like the color red, you can become white like snow; though they are as easy to see as the color scarlet, you can become white like wool.

He is the one who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,

But you are willing to forgive, so that you might be honored.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, pay attention, and act! Don’t delay, for your own sake, O my God! For your city and your people are called by your name.”

The LORD passed by before him and proclaimed:“ The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness,keeping loyal love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children and children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.”

Also seat two villains opposite him and have them testify,‘ You cursed God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”The men of the city, the leaders and the nobles who lived there, followed the written orders Jezebel had sent them.They observed a time of fasting and put Naboth in front of the people.The two villains arrived and sat opposite him. Then the villains testified against Naboth right before the people, saying,“ Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they dragged him outside the city and stoned him to death.Then they reported to Jezebel,“ Naboth has been stoned to death.”

May they be like wind-driven chaff, as the LORD’s angel attacks them!

and one who misuses the name of the LORD must surely be put to death. The whole congregation must surely stone him, whether he is a foreigner or a native citizen; when he misuses the Name he must be put to death.

Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

You will once again have mercy on us; you will conquer our evil deeds; you will hurl our sins into the depths of the sea.

Yet the Lord our God is compassionate and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.
