格拉森一帶的全體民眾請求耶穌離開他們，因為他們十分懼怕。耶穌就上船回去了。鬼魔所離開的那人央求耶穌，要和他在一起，但耶穌讓他走，說：

這樣，撒馬利亞人來到耶穌那裡的時候，請求他住在他們那裡。於是耶穌在那裡住了兩天。

這樣，眾人一發現耶穌已經不在那裡，連他的門徒們也不在那裡，就上了船，往迦百農去找耶穌。

耶穌聽了這事，就上船離開那裡，獨自到一個荒僻的地方去。眾人聽到了，就從各城鎮徒步來跟隨他。耶穌下了船，看見一大群人，就對他們動了憐憫之心，使其中的病人痊癒。

他們就極力挽留他，說：「時候晚了，太陽已經平西了，請與我們一起住下吧！」耶穌就進去，與他們一起住下。

可是眾人看見他們離開了，並且有許多人認出他們，就從各城鎮一起徒步趕往那裡，而且比他們先到了。耶穌下了船，看見一大群人，就對他們動了憐憫之心，因為他們像羊沒有牧人那樣。耶穌就開始教導他們很多事。
