格拉森一带的全体民众请求耶稣离开他们，因为他们十分惧怕。耶稣就上船回去了。鬼魔所离开的那人央求耶稣，要和他在一起，但耶稣让他走，说：

这样，撒马利亚人来到耶稣那里的时候，请求他住在他们那里。于是耶稣在那里住了两天。

这样，众人一发现耶稣已经不在那里，连他的门徒们也不在那里，就上了船，往迦百农去找耶稣。

耶稣听了这事，就上船离开那里，独自到一个荒僻的地方去。众人听到了，就从各城镇徒步来跟随他。耶稣下了船，看见一大群人，就对他们动了怜悯之心，使其中的病人痊愈。

他们就极力挽留他，说：“时候晚了，太阳已经平西了，请与我们一起住下吧！”耶稣就进去，与他们一起住下。

可是众人看见他们离开了，并且有许多人认出他们，就从各城镇一起徒步赶往那里，而且比他们先到了。耶稣下了船，看见一大群人，就对他们动了怜悯之心，因为他们像羊没有牧人那样。耶稣就开始教导他们很多事。
