一天，耶稣到山上整夜向上帝祷告。

耶稣说：“我的食物就是遵行差我来者的旨意，完成祂的工作。

但那人离开之后，却到处传扬这件事，以致耶稣无法再公开进城。祂只能待在城外的旷野，可是人们仍从各处来找祂。

格拉森地区的居民都十分害怕，请求耶稣离开那里，耶稣便乘船回去了。那从前被鬼附身的人恳求跟耶稣同行，耶稣却对他说：

撒玛利亚人来见耶稣，恳求祂留下来，祂就在那里住了两天。

他们发现耶稣和门徒都不在那里，就乘船到迦百农去找祂。

耶稣听见这个消息，就独自坐船退到一处偏僻的地方。众人得知后，就从各城步行来跟随祂。耶稣上了岸，看见一大群人，心里怜悯他们，就治好了他们当中的病人。

他们极力挽留祂，说：“天快黑了，时候不早了，跟我们一同住宿吧。”耶稣就和他们一起进村住下。

可是有许多人看见他们离开，认出了他们，便从各城镇步行赶往那里，比他们先到达。耶稣一下船，看见这一大群人好像没有牧人的羊，心里怜悯他们，于是教导了他们许多道理。
