當天晚上，有人帶著許多被鬼附身的人來見耶穌。耶穌一句話就把鬼趕出去了，並醫好了所有的病人。這是要應驗以賽亞先知的話：「祂擔當了我們的軟弱，背負了我們的疾病。」

甚至只要將保羅身上的手帕或圍裙放在病人身上，病人就痊癒了，邪靈也會離開所附的人。

耶穌聽見這個消息，就獨自坐船退到一處偏僻的地方。眾人得知後，就從各城步行來跟隨祂。

他們跑遍那一帶地方，用墊子把生病的人抬來，聽到耶穌在哪裡，就把病人抬到哪裡。耶穌不論到哪一個城市、鄉鎮和村莊，人們總是把病人抬到街市上，求耶穌讓他們摸一摸祂衣裳的穗邊，所有摸過的病人都好了。

因為祂醫好了很多人，凡有疾病的人都想擠過來摸祂。

耶穌不能在那裡行任何神蹟，只把手按在幾個病人身上，醫治了他們。

那時，耶穌剛治好了許多患各種疾病和被鬼附身的人，又使許多瞎子得見光明。耶穌便回答說：「你們回去把所見所聞告訴約翰，就是瞎子看見，瘸子走路，痲瘋病人得潔淨，聾子聽見，死人復活，窮人聽到福音。凡對我沒有失去信心的人有福了！」

人們甚至把病人抬到街上，放在床上或墊子上，希望彼得路過時的影子可以落在病人身上。

耶穌走遍加利利，在各個會堂裡教導人，宣講天國的福音，醫治人們各樣的疾病。祂的名聲傳遍了整個敘利亞。人們把一切患病的，就是患各種疾病的、疼痛的、癲癇的、癱瘓的，以及被鬼附身的都帶到祂面前，祂都醫治了他們。
