Then he began to tell them,“ Today this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.”

Then turning to His disciples He said privately,“ The eyes that see the things you see are blessed!For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see yet didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear yet didn’t hear them.”

On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.I will even pour out My Spirit on My male and female slaves in those days, and they will prophesy.

“ Brothers, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: He is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn an oath to him to seat one of his descendants on his throne.Seeing this in advance, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah: He was not left in Hades, and His flesh did not experience decay.“ God has resurrected this Jesus. We are all witnesses of this.Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has poured out what you both see and hear.

The woman said to Him,“ I know that Messiah is coming”( who is called Christ).“ When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”“ I am He,” Jesus told her,“ the One speaking to you.”

But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets— that His Messiah would suffer— He has fulfilled in this way.

You pore over the Scriptures because you think you have eternal life in them, yet they testify about Me.

Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You will listen and listen, yet never understand; and you will look and look, yet never perceive.
