有人把以賽亞先知書遞給祂，祂打開書卷，找到這樣一段經文：

只是無從下手，因為百姓都十分喜愛聽祂講道。

第二天清晨，祂又回到聖殿。百姓聚集在祂那裡，祂就坐下來教導他們。

那時，耶穌對眾人說：「你們像對付強盜一樣拿著刀棍來抓我嗎？我天天在聖殿裡教導人，你們並沒有來抓我。

安息日那天，我們到城外的河邊，知道那裡有一個禱告的地方，就坐下來，向已經聚集的婦女講道。

耶穌看見這些人群，就上了山，剛坐下，門徒便走到祂跟前，祂就開口教導他們，說：

就上了西門的那條船，請西門把船稍微划離岸邊，然後坐在船上教導眾人。

你們中間，誰要當首領，誰就要做大家的僕人；誰要居首位，誰就要做大家的奴僕。正如人子不是來受人服侍，而是來服侍人，並且犧牲性命，作許多人的贖價。」

他們由別加繼續前行，來到彼西底區的安提阿。在安息日那天，他們進了會堂坐下來。讀完律法書和先知書後，會堂主管派人告訴他們：「弟兄們，如果你們有什麼勸勉眾人的話，請講。」保羅站起來向大家揮手示意，說：「各位以色列同胞和各位敬畏上帝的外族朋友們，請聽我說。

當天，耶穌離開房子，坐在湖邊。有一大群人聚集到祂周圍，祂只好上船坐下，眾人都站在岸上。

彼得看見這情形，就對大家說：「以色列人啊，何必驚奇呢？為什麼一直盯著我們呢？你們以為我們是憑自己的能力和虔誠叫這人行走嗎？
