摩西進入雲中上了山；摩西在山上四十晝又四十夜。

『你去招聚書珊所找得着的一切猶大人為我禁食，不喫不喝三天，就是三晝三夜；我也這樣，我和我的侍女也要禁食；這樣，我就不照法令進去見王；我若死，就死罷。』

早晨再上城裏去的時候，耶穌餓了。

那非利士人早晚都走近前來站着罵陣、有四十天。

『因永恆主說要消滅你們，我就俯伏在永恆主面前，俯伏到那四十晝四十夜。

又出通告傳遍尼尼微說：『王和大臣有諭旨說：人和牲口、牛羣羊羣、甚麼都不可嘗，草不可喫，水也不可喝。
