“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed,

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,

The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”

He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners.The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly.

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

Then he told John’s disciples,“ Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard— the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”

to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.’

You will open the eyes of the blind. You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons.

I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,

Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.If anyone claims,“ I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness.Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.

In that day the deaf will hear words read from a book, and the blind will see through the gloom and darkness.The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. The poor will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Then everyone who has eyes will be able to see the truth, and everyone who has ears will be able to hear it.

the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.”

I will lead blind Israel down a new path, guiding them along an unfamiliar way. I will brighten the darkness before them and smooth out the road ahead of them. Yes, I will indeed do these things; I will not forsake them.But those who trust in idols, who say,‘ You are our gods,’ will be turned away in shame.“ Listen, you who are deaf! Look and see, you blind!

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.

After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting,“ Son of David, have mercy on us!”They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them,“ Do you believe I can make you see?”“ Yes, Lord,” they told him,“ we do.”Then he touched their eyes and said,“ Because of your faith, it will happen.”Then their eyes were opened, and they could see! Jesus sternly warned them,“ Don’t tell anyone about this.”

For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf.

I will say to the prisoners,‘ Come out in freedom,’ and to those in darkness,‘ Come into the light.’ They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures and on hills that were previously bare.

Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said,“ God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours.

For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit.

Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him,“ We have found the Messiah”( which means“ Christ”).

“ God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him?

Who can snatch the plunder of war from the hands of a warrior? Who can demand that a tyrant let his captives go?But the Lord says,“ The captives of warriors will be released, and the plunder of tyrants will be retrieved. For I will fight those who fight you, and I will save your children.

Rise from the dust, O Jerusalem. Sit in a place of honor. Remove the chains of slavery from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.For this is what the Lord says:“ When I sold you into exile, I received no payment. Now I can redeem you without having to pay for you.”

And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.He will wear righteousness like a belt and truth like an undergarment.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

I will raise up Cyrus to fulfill my righteous purpose, and I will guide his actions. He will restore my city and free my captive people— without seeking a reward! I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!”

Because of the covenant I made with you, sealed with blood, I will free your prisoners from death in a waterless dungeon.Come back to the place of safety, all you prisoners who still have hope! I promise this very day that I will repay two blessings for each of your troubles.

For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them,for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said,“ Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

“ A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place.

My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one.

“ And this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord.“ My Spirit will not leave them, and neither will these words I have given you. They will be on your lips and on the lips of your children and your children’s children forever. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you.Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you.

Those who are left will be the lowly and humble, for it is they who trust in the name of the Lord.

He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Finally he will cause justice to be victorious.

“ But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.

Then Jesus told him,“ I entered this world to render judgment— to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.”Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked,“ Are you saying we’re blind?”“ If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty,” Jesus replied.“ But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.

“ Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations.He will not shout or raise his voice in public.He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged.He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction.”

You love justice and hate evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.

The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

“ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.

And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”

He said to him,“ Walk through the streets of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of all who weep and sigh because of the detestable sins being committed in their city.”

That was the end of my covenant with them. The suffering flock was watching me, and they knew that the Lord was speaking through my actions.

to hear the groans of the prisoners, to release those condemned to die.

For the Lord declares,“ I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this:“ I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

Some sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery.They rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High.That is why he broke them with hard labor; they fell, and no one was there to help them.“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains.Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.For he broke down their prison gates of bronze; he cut apart their bars of iron.

The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will.

You were sorry and humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this city and its people. You humbled yourself and tore your clothing in despair and wept before me in repentance. And I have indeed heard you, says the Lord.
