Jesus left that part of the country and returned with his disciples to Nazareth, his hometown.The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. They asked,“ Where did he get all this wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?”Then they scoffed,“ He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.

But Paul and Barnabas traveled inland to Antioch of Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the synagogue for the services.After the usual readings from the books of Moses and the prophets, those in charge of the service sent them this message:“ Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, come and give it.”So Paul stood, lifted his hand to quiet them, and started speaking.“ Men of Israel,” he said,“ and you God fearing Gentiles, listen to me.

When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee.

When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual.

So the family went and lived in a town called Nazareth. This fulfilled what the prophets had said:“ He will be called a Nazarene.”

He returned to Nazareth, his hometown. When he taught there in the synagogue, everyone was amazed and said,“ Where does he get this wisdom and the power to do miracles?”Then they scoffed,“ He’s just the carpenter’s son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers— James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas.

Jesus replied,“ Everyone knows what I teach. I have preached regularly in the synagogues and the Temple, where the people gather. I have not spoken in secret.

Then he began to speak to them.“ The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!”

He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee,to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David.
