Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.During that time the devil came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”But Jesus told him,“ No! The Scriptures say,‘ People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple,and said,“ If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,‘ He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’”Jesus responded,“ The Scriptures also say,‘ You must not test the Lord your God.’”Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.“ I will give it all to you,” he said,“ if you will kneel down and worship me.”“ Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him.“ For the Scriptures say,‘ You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,

The Spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness,where he was tempted by Satan for forty days. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of him.

Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die.“ I have had enough, Lord,” he said.“ Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”

That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required,

And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.

For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit.

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I went in bitterness and turmoil, but the Lord’s hold on me was strong.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing.

After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.

One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened,and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said,“ You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.

until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit.

Then John testified,“ I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him.

But as soon as I leave you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you away to who knows where. When Ahab comes and cannot find you, he will kill me. Yet I have been a true servant of the Lord all my life.
