Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.Now when the tempter came to Him, he said,“ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”But He answered and said,“ It is written,‘ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,and said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and,‘ In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”Jesus said to him,“ It is written again,‘ You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.And he said to Him,“ All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”Then Jesus said to him,“ Away with you, Satan! For it is written,‘ You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.

Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.

“ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said,“ It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”

So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.

So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.

Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.

When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened.And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said,“ You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,

until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,

And John bore witness, saying,“ I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.

And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to a place I do not know; so when I go and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he will kill me. But I your servant have feared the Lord from my youth.
