Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.And after He had fasted for forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.And the tempter came and said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”But He answered and said,“ It is written:‘ Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’ ”Then the devil* took Him along into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,and he* said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written:‘ He will give His angels orders concerning You’; and‘ On their hands they will lift You up, So that You do not strike Your foot against a stone.’ ”Jesus said to him,“ On the other hand, it is written:‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”Again, the devil* took Him along to a very high mountain and* showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;and he said to Him,“ All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.”Then Jesus* said to him,“ Go away, Satan! For it is written:‘ You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’ ”Then the devil* left Him; and behold, angels came and began to serve Him.

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed,

And immediately the Spirit* brought Him out into the wilderness.And He was in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving Him.

And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding region.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners;

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree; and he asked for himself to die, and said,“ Enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.And He will delight in the fear of the Lord, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the humble of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

For He whom God sent speaks the words of God; for He does not give the Spirit sparingly.

So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away; and I went embittered in the rage of my spirit, and the hand of the Lord was strong on me.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.

After He was baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and settling on Him,

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven:“ You are My beloved Son, in You I am well pleased.”

And he came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;

until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had given orders by the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen.

And John testified, saying,“ I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.

And it will come about when I leave you that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to where I do not know; so when I come and inform Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me, though I, your servant, have feared the Lord from my youth.
