Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.And the tempter came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”But he answered,“ It is written,“‘ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the templeand said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,“‘ He will command his angels concerning you,’ and“‘ On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”Jesus said to him,“ Again it is written,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.And he said to him,“ All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”Then Jesus said to him,“ Be gone, Satan! For it is written,“‘ You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying,“ It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law,

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear,but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness in the heat of my spirit, the hand of the Lord being strong upon me.

And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.

And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened,and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven,“ You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

And John bore witness:“ I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.

And as soon as I have gone from you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you I know not where. And so, when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me, although I your servant have feared the Lord from my youth.
