他说：“我就是在旷野呼喊者的声音：‘修直主的路！’正如以赛亚先知所说的。”

你们自己可以为我作证：我曾说，我不是基督，不过是奉差遣作他的先锋的。娶新娘的是新郎。新郎的好友站在那里听着，听见新郎的声音就非常喜乐。因此，我这喜乐满溢了！他必兴旺，我必衰微。“那从天上来的，是在万有之上；从地上来的，是属于地，所讲的也是属于地。那从天上来的，是超越万有之上。他把所见所闻的见证出来，可是没有人接受他的见证。那接受他的见证的，就确认神是真的。神所差来的那一位讲神的话，因为神把圣灵无限地赐给他。父爱子，已经把万有交在他手里。信子的，有永生；不信从子的，必不得见永生，神的震怒却常在他身上。”

孩子啊，你要称为至高者的先知，因为你要行在主的面前，预备他的路，使他的子民，因罪得赦，就知道救恩。因我们神的怜悯，使清晨的阳光从高天临到我们，光照那坐在黑暗中死荫里的人，引导我们的脚，走上平安的路。”

他来是要作见证，就是为光作见证，使众人藉着他可以相信。

约翰回答：“我是用水施洗，但有一位站在你们中间，是你们不认识的；他是在我以后来的，我就是给他解鞋带也不配。”这些事发生在约旦河东的伯大尼，约翰施洗的地方。第二天，约翰见耶稣迎面而来，就说：“看哪，神的羊羔，是除去世人的罪孽的！这一位就是我所说的：‘有一个人，是在我以后来的，位分比我高，因为他本来是在我以前的。’我本来不认识他，但为了要把他显明给以色列人，因此我来用水施洗。”约翰又作见证说：“我曾看见圣灵，好像鸽子从天上降下来，停留在他的身上。我本来不认识他，但那差我来用水施洗的对我说：‘你看见圣灵降下来，停留在谁身上，谁就是用圣灵施洗的。’我看见了，就作见证说：‘这就是神的儿子。’”过了一天，约翰和他的两个门徒又站在那里。约翰看见耶稣走过的时候，就说：“看哪，神的羊羔！”

在旷野有呼喊者的声音：‘预备主的道，修直他的路！’”

他要使许多以色列人转向主他们的神。他必有以利亚的灵和能力，行在主的前面，叫父亲的心转向儿女，叫悖逆的转向义人的意念，为主安排那预备好了的人民。”

以赛亚先知所说：“在旷野有呼喊者的声音：‘预备主的道，修直他的路！’”就是指着这约翰说的。

他要使父亲的心转向儿女，儿女的心转向父亲，免得我来击打这地，以至完全毁灭。”（本章第1~6节在《马索拉文本》为3:19~24）

必有人说：“你们要填高，要填高，要修平道路；把障碍物从我子民的路上除掉。”

你们要经过，要从城门经过，预备人民的道路；你们要填高，要填高大道。要捡去石头、向万民竖立旗帜。
