The heavens suddenly opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him.And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.”

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.And a voice came from heaven:“ You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.”

“ Now my soul is troubled. What should I say— Father, save me from this hour? But that is why I came to this hour.Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven:“ I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

About eight days after this conversation, he took along Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white.

Yet he often withdrew to deserted places and prayed.

After dismissing the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Well into the night, he was there alone.

While he was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them,“ Who do the crowds say that I am?”
