John answered, saying to all,“ I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:

保羅說：「約翰所施的是悔改的洗禮，他告訴民眾當相信在他以後來的那一位，就是相信耶穌。」他們聽了，就受洗歸入了主耶穌的名。

約翰回答說：「我用水施洗，但有一位站在你們中間，是你們不認識的，

實際上，我們受洗也都是藉著一位聖靈成為一個身體——無論是猶太人或外邦人，無論是奴隸或自由人——並且我們都是受了一位聖靈的澆灌。

不過他來的日子，誰能承受得起呢？他顯現的時候，誰能站立得住呢？因為他像煉金之人的火，又像漂布之人的鹼。他必安坐像熬煉、潔淨銀子之人，潔淨利未的子孫，精煉他們像精煉金銀那樣；他們就必藉著公義向耶和華獻供物。

有舌頭像火焰那樣，向他們顯現，分開留在他們每一個人身上。於是他們都被聖靈充滿，就照著聖靈賜給他們的話，開始說出別種語言。

信我的人，就如經上所說的，從他的腹中將要湧流出活水的江河。」

在耶穌公開出來之前，約翰預先向所有以色列子民宣講了悔改的洗禮。當約翰快要跑盡該跑的路程時，說：『你們認為我是誰？我不是那一位。看哪，他要在我以後來，我就是為他解腳上的鞋帶也不配。』

因為主必藉著審判之靈和焚燒之靈，洗淨錫安女子的汙穢，又除淨耶路撒冷中殺人流血的罪。

我必使這三分之一進入火中，熬煉他們如熬煉銀子，察驗他們如察驗金子。他們將呼求我的名，我必應允他們。我必說：『他們是我的子民。』他們也必說：『耶和華是我們的神。』」

他宣講，說：「在我之後，有一位比我更強有力的要來。我就是彎腰為他解鞋帶也不配。我用水給你們施洗，但他要用聖靈給你們施洗。」

因為我要用水澆灌乾渴之處，用河流澆灌乾旱之地；我要把我的靈澆灌在你的後裔身上，把我的祝福澆灌在你的子孫身上。他們要像溪水旁的柳樹，在青草間長出。

等到聖靈從高處傾注在我們身上，曠野就要變為果園，而果園要被看為果林。

你們要因我的責備而回轉；看哪，我要把我的靈傾注在你們身上，使你們明白我的話語！

彼得還在講這些話的時候，聖靈降臨在每個聽這話語的人身上。

他被高舉在神的右邊，從父領受了所應許的聖靈，就將聖靈傾注了下來。這正是你們現在所看見所聽見的。

『神說，在末後的那些日子裡將是這樣：我要把我的靈傾注在所有人身上，你們的兒女要說預言，你們的年輕人要見異象，你們的老年人要做異夢。是的，在那些日子裡，我也要將我的靈傾注在我的奴僕和婢女們身上，他們就要說預言。
