He answered them,“ He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”

John answered,“ Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

And he answered them,“ Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”

John replied,“ If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”

And he would answer and say to them,“ The one who has two tunics is to share with the one who has none; and the one who has food is to do likewise.”

Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you, and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard.Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say,‘ Here I am.’“ If you take away from among you the yoke, finger pointing, and speaking wickedly;and if you pour out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will rise in darkness, and your obscurity will be as the noonday;and Yahweh will guide you continually, satisfy your soul in dry places, and make your bones strong. You will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters don’t fail.

But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?

that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to share;

When Jesus heard these things, he said to him,“ You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.”

And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,and one of you tells them,“ Go in peace. Be warmed and filled;” yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.Yes, a man will say,“ You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works.You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected.So the Scripture was fulfilled which says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers and sent them out another way?For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

He, fastening his eyes on him, and being frightened, said,“ What is it, Lord?” He said to him,“ Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.

a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.

Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,“ Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much.”

Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.

For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him,“ Buy what things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.

For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord,begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints.This was not as we had expected, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.So we urged Titus, that as he had made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace.But as you abound in everything, in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that you also abound in this grace.I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love.For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.I give a judgment in this: for this is expedient for you who were the first to start a year ago, not only to do, but also to be willing.But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability.For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you don’t have.For this is not that others may be eased and you distressed,but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack; that there may be equality.

For this might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor.” So they grumbled against her.But Jesus said,“ Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for me.For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want to, you can do them good; but you will not always have me.She has done what she could. She has anointed my body beforehand for the burying.

“ The King will answer them,‘ Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

and said,‘ Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.
