分封王希律聽見耶穌的名聲，

分封王希律娶了自己弟弟的妻子希羅底，又做了許多惡事，因而受到約翰的指責，

那時，凱撒奧古斯都頒下諭旨，命羅馬帝國的人民都辦理戶口登記。

「果然如此，希律和本丟·彼拉多、外族人和以色列聚集在這城裡，要對抗你膏立的聖子耶穌，

耶穌的事蹟很快便傳到希律耳中，令他十分困惑，因為有人說：「約翰死而復活了」，

王權必不離猶大，御杖必伴他左右，直到那位執掌王權的來到，萬民都必歸順他。

原來希律娶了他兄弟腓力的妻子希羅底，並為她的緣故而派人逮捕了約翰，把他關押在監牢裡。

亞基帕王、總督、百妮姬及其他在座的人都站起來，

於是，彼拉多依照他們的要求，

彼拉多聽後，問道：「祂是加利利人嗎？」他得知耶穌來自分封王希律的轄區後，便把耶穌送交希律，希律剛巧在耶路撒冷。希律見到耶穌，十分高興，因為他聽過耶穌的事，早就想見祂，希望看祂行神蹟。他問了耶穌許多問題，耶穌卻一言不發。祭司長和律法教師站在那裡極力地指控耶穌。希律和他的衛兵嘲弄侮辱耶穌，給祂穿上華麗的袍子，把祂押回彼拉多那裡。

過了兩年，波求·非斯都接任總督，腓利斯為了討好猶太人，仍然把保羅留在監裡。

於是，眾人動身把耶穌押到彼拉多那裡，指控祂說：「這人蠱惑民心，禁止百姓向凱撒納稅，又說自己是基督，是君王。」彼拉多問耶穌：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答說：「如你所言。」彼拉多轉過身來，對祭司長和百姓宣佈：「我查不出這人有什麼罪。」
