分封王希律听见耶稣的名声，

分封王希律娶了自己弟弟的妻子希罗底，又做了许多恶事，因而受到约翰的指责，

那时，凯撒奥古斯都颁下谕旨，命罗马帝国的人民都办理户口登记。

“果然如此，希律和本丢·彼拉多、外族人和以色列人都聚集在这城里，要对抗你膏立的圣子耶稣，

耶稣的事迹很快便传到希律耳中，令他十分困惑，因为有人说：“约翰死而复活了”，

王权必不离犹大，御杖必伴他左右，直到那位执掌王权的来到，万民都必归顺他。

原来希律娶了他兄弟腓力的妻子希罗底，并为她的缘故而派人逮捕了约翰，把他关押在监牢里。

亚基帕王、总督、百妮姬及其他在座的人都站起来，

于是，彼拉多依照他们的要求，

彼拉多听后，问道：“祂是加利利人吗？”他得知耶稣来自分封王希律的辖区后，便把耶稣送交希律，希律刚巧在耶路撒冷。希律见到耶稣，十分高兴，因为他听过耶稣的事，早就想见祂，希望看祂行神迹。他问了耶稣许多问题，耶稣却一言不发。祭司长和律法教师站在那里极力地指控耶稣。希律和他的卫兵嘲弄侮辱耶稣，给祂穿上华丽的袍子，把祂押回彼拉多那里。

过了两年，波求·非斯都接任总督，腓利斯为了讨好犹太人，仍然把保罗留在监里。

于是，众人动身把耶稣押到彼拉多那里，指控祂说：“这人蛊惑民心，禁止百姓向凯撒纳税，又说自己是基督，是君王。”彼拉多问耶稣：“你是犹太人的王吗？”耶稣回答说：“如你所言。”彼拉多转过身来，对祭司长和百姓宣布：“我查不出这人有什么罪。”
