撒迦利亞看見後，就驚慌不安，恐懼就臨到了他。天使對他說：「撒迦利亞，不要怕，因為你的祈禱已蒙垂聽。你的妻子伊莉莎白要為你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫約翰。

「你要給士每拿教會的使者寫信說：「那位首先的、末後的，那位曾經死去又活過來的，這樣說：

看哪！那位樣子像人的碰了我的嘴唇，我就開口說話。我對那位站在我面前的說：「我主啊！因這異象，劇痛臨到我身上，我的力氣就留存不住。

他的容貌像閃電，衣服潔白如雪。看守的衛兵們因怕天使就渾身發抖，變得像死人那樣。天使對婦女們說：「你們不要怕！我知道你們是在尋找被釘十字架的耶穌。

唯獨我但以理看到了這異象，那些與我在一起的人卻沒有看到這異象，但是有極大的恐懼落在他們身上，他們就逃走躲藏了。因此，唯獨剩下我一人看到了這極大的異象；我裡面一點力氣都沒有，我的臉色變得如同死灰，我的力氣也留存不住，但我卻聽見了他說話的聲音；我一聽見他說話的聲音，就臉伏於地沉睡了。看哪，有一隻手碰了我一下，使我用膝蓋和手掌支撐起來！那碰我的對我說：「蒙愛的但以理啊！你當領悟我向你說的話，站起來，因為我現在受派遣到你這裡。」他與我說這話的時候，我就戰戰兢兢地站了起來。他又對我說：「但以理啊！你不要害怕，因為自從你用心領悟這事、在你的神面前謙卑的第一天起，你的禱告就蒙垂聽了；我是因你的禱告而來的。

於是加百列來到我所站的地方。他一來，我就驚惶失措，臉伏於地。他對我說：「人子啊，你當領悟，這異象是關於末後的時期！」他與我說話的時候，我臉伏於地沉睡了。他碰了我一下，使我站立起來。

瑪麗亞因這話就驚慌不安，思索這問候到底是什麼意思。

有一天，大約下午三點，他在異象中清楚地看見神的一位天使來到他面前，對他說：「哥尼流！」哥尼流注視著他，感到害怕，說：「主啊，有什麼事呢？」天使說：「你的禱告和你的施捨，已經上達神的面前蒙記念了。

在這裡，收取十分之一的人們固然都會死去；但在那裡，他卻被見證說是永生的。
