Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised,“ Which,” He said,“ you heard of from Me;

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.

“ It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, Your old men will have dreams, Your young men will see visions.And even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire, and columns of smoke.The sun will be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.And it will come about that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Will be saved; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, Just as the Lord has said, Even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.

“ A Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those in Jacob who turn from wrongdoing,” declares the Lord.“ As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord:“ My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord,“ from now and forever.”

Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fertile field, And the fertile field is considered as a forest.

For I will pour water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, And My blessing on your descendants;And they will spring up among the grass Like poplars by streams of water.’

“ When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, namely, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, He will testify about Me,

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever;the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, distributing themselves, and a tongue rested on each one of them.And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with different tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together and they were bewildered, because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.They were amazed and astonished, saying,“ Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,Cretans and Arabs— we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty deeds of God.”And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another,“ What does this mean?”But others were jeering and saying,“ They are full of sweet wine!”But Peter, taking his stand with the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them:“ Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, know this, and pay attention to my words.For these people are not drunk, as you assume, since it is only the third hour of the day;but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:‘ And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,‘ That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, And your young men will see visions, And your old men will have dreams;And even on My male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days, And they will prophesy.And I will display wonders in the sky above And signs on the earth below, Blood, fire, and vapor of smoke.The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment:regarding sin, because they do not believe in Me;and regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me;and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.“ I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time.But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.He will glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you.All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you.“ A little while, and you no longer are going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me.”
