過了安息日，在一週的頭一天，黎明的時候，茉大拉的瑪麗亞和另一個瑪麗亞來看墳墓。忽然發生了強烈的地震，主的一位天使從天上降下來，上前把那石頭滾開，坐在上面。他的容貌像閃電，衣服潔白如雪。看守的衛兵們因怕天使就渾身發抖，變得像死人那樣。天使對婦女們說：「你們不要怕！我知道你們是在尋找被釘十字架的耶穌。他不在這裡，因為他已經復活了，正如他所說過的。你們來看安放他的地方。趕快去告訴他的門徒們：『他從死人中復活了。看哪，他要在你們之前到加利利去。在那裡，你們將見到他。』看哪，我已經告訴你們了！」她們立即離開墓穴，又懼怕，又大大歡喜，跑去告訴耶穌的門徒們。

還有一些從邪靈和疾病中被解脫出來、得了痊癒的婦女，其中有那稱為茉大拉的瑪麗亞，從她身上曾經有七個鬼魔被趕出來，又有希律的管家苦撒的妻子約亞娜，以及蘇珊娜和許多別的婦女，她們都用自己所擁有的來服事耶穌和門徒們。

那裡有許多婦女從遠處觀看，她們從加利利開始就跟隨耶穌，服事他。其中有茉大拉的瑪麗亞、雅各和約西的母親瑪麗亞，以及西庇太兒子們的母親。

安息日一過，茉大拉的瑪麗亞、雅各的母親瑪麗亞和莎羅美就買了香料，要去膏抹耶穌。在一週的頭一天，一大清早，太陽剛出來，她們就來到墓穴那裡。她們互相說：「誰能替我們滾開墓穴口的石頭呢？」原來那塊石頭非常大。可是她們抬頭一看，見石頭已經被滾開了。她們進了墓穴，看見一個年輕人身穿白袍坐在右邊，就大吃一驚。那年輕人對她們說：「不要驚慌！你們是在尋找被釘十字架的拿撒勒人耶穌，他已經復活了，不在這裡。看，這就是他們安放他的地方。你們去，告訴他的門徒們和彼得：『他要在你們之前到加利利去。在那裡，你們將見到他，正如他告訴過你們的。』」她們渾身顫抖、驚慌失措，從墓穴出來就逃跑了。她們因為感到懼怕，什麼也沒有對任何人說。
