過了安息日，在禮拜日天亮的時候，抹大拉的馬利亞和另一個馬利亞來看墳墓。忽然，地震得很厲害；主的使者從天上下來，把石頭輥開，坐在上面。他的樣子好像閃電，衣服潔白如雪。看守的人因為害怕他，就渾身戰抖，好像死了一樣。那使者對婦女們說：“你們不要怕，我知道你們在找被釘十字架的耶穌。他不在這裡，已經照他所說的復活了。你們來看安放他的地方吧。快去告訴他的門徒：‘他已經從死人中復活了。他會比你們先到加利利去，你們在那裡必看見他。’現在我已經告訴你們了。”她們立刻離開墳墓，又害怕，又十分歡喜，跑去告訴耶穌的門徒。

還有幾個蒙了醫治、脫離污鬼與疾病的婦女，其中有稱為抹大拉的馬利亞，曾有七個鬼從她身上趕出來；有希律的管家古撒的妻子約亞拿，又有蘇珊娜，和許多別的婦女，她們都用自己的財物供給耶穌和門徒。

有許多婦女在那裡遠遠地觀看；她們是從加利利開始跟隨耶穌服事他的。她們中間有抹大拉的馬利亞、雅各和約西的母親馬利亞，以及西庇太的兒子的母親。

過了安息日，抹大拉的馬利亞、雅各的母親馬利亞和撒羅米，買了香膏，要去膏耶穌。禮拜日的大清早，出太陽的時候，她們就來到墳墓那裡，彼此說：“誰可以給我們輥開墓門的石頭呢？”原來那塊石頭非常大，她們抬頭一看，卻見石頭已經輥開了。她們進了墳墓，看見一位身穿白袍的青年，坐在右邊，就非常驚恐。那青年對她們說：“不要驚慌！你們尋找那釘十字架的拿撒勒人耶穌，他不在這裡，已經復活了；請看他們安放他的地方。你們去告訴他的門徒和彼得：他要比你們先到加利利去，你們在那裡必定看見他，正如他從前告訴你們的。”因為驚恐戰慄，她們一從墳墓出來就逃跑；由於害怕，她們甚麼也沒有告訴人。（有些抄本無第9至20節）

也有些婦女遠遠地觀看，她們之中有抹大拉的馬利亞，小雅各和約西的母親馬利亞，以及撒羅米。
