过了安息日，在礼拜日天亮的时候，抹大拉的马利亚和另一个马利亚来看坟墓。忽然，地震得很厉害；主的使者从天上下来，把石头辊开，坐在上面。他的样子好像闪电，衣服洁白如雪。看守的人因为害怕他，就浑身战抖，好像死了一样。那使者对妇女们说：“你们不要怕，我知道你们在找被钉十字架的耶稣。他不在这里，已经照他所说的复活了。你们来看安放他的地方吧。快去告诉他的门徒：‘他已经从死人中复活了。他会比你们先到加利利去，你们在那里必看见他。’现在我已经告诉你们了。”她们立刻离开坟墓，又害怕，又十分欢喜，跑去告诉耶稣的门徒。

还有几个蒙了医治、脱离污鬼与疾病的妇女，其中有称为抹大拉的马利亚，曾有七个鬼从她身上赶出来；有希律的管家古撒的妻子约亚拿，又有苏珊娜，和许多别的妇女，她们都用自己的财物供给耶稣和门徒。

有许多妇女在那里远远地观看；她们是从加利利开始跟随耶稣服事他的。她们中间有抹大拉的马利亚、雅各和约西的母亲马利亚，以及西庇太的儿子的母亲。

过了安息日，抹大拉的马利亚、雅各的母亲马利亚和撒罗米，买了香膏，要去膏耶稣。礼拜日的大清早，出太阳的时候，她们就来到坟墓那里，彼此说：“谁可以给我们辊开墓门的石头呢？”原来那块石头非常大，她们抬头一看，却见石头已经辊开了。她们进了坟墓，看见一位身穿白袍的青年，坐在右边，就非常惊恐。那青年对她们说：“不要惊慌！你们寻找那钉十字架的拿撒勒人耶稣，他不在这里，已经复活了；请看他们安放他的地方。你们去告诉他的门徒和彼得：他要比你们先到加利利去，你们在那里必定看见他，正如他从前告诉你们的。”因为惊恐战栗，她们一从坟墓出来就逃跑；由于害怕，她们什么也没有告诉人。（有些抄本无第9至20节）

也有些妇女远远地观看，她们之中有抹大拉的马利亚，小雅各和约西的母亲马利亚，以及撒罗米。
