安息日刚过，周日黎明时分，抹大拉的玛丽亚和另一位玛丽亚一同到坟墓去察看。突然，大地剧烈地震动，上帝的天使从天而降，推开堵着墓穴的石头，坐在上面。他的容貌如闪电，衣裳洁白如雪。看守墓穴的卫兵吓得要死，浑身发抖。天使对那两个女人说：“不要怕，我知道你们是在找那位被钉十字架的耶稣。祂不在这里，正如祂所说的，祂已经复活了。你们来看，这是安放祂的地方。现在你们快回去，把这消息告诉祂的门徒，祂已经从死里复活，先你们一步去了加利利，你们将在那里见到祂。记住，我已经告诉你们了。”她们听了又惊又喜，连忙离开坟墓，跑去告诉门徒。

还有几个曾被邪灵和疾病缠身、现在已被医治的妇女。其中有抹大拉的玛丽亚，耶稣曾经从她身上赶出七个鬼，还有希律的管家苦撒的妻子约亚拿，此外还有苏撒拿等其他妇女。她们用自己的钱财资助耶稣和门徒。

有好些妇女在远处观看，她们从加利利就跟随了耶稣，服侍祂。其中有抹大拉的玛丽亚、雅各和约西的母亲玛丽亚以及西庇太两个儿子的母亲。

过了安息日，抹大拉的玛丽亚、雅各的母亲玛丽亚和撒罗米买了香料，要去抹耶稣的遗体。周日清早，太阳刚刚升起，她们就去坟墓那里。途中她们彼此议论说：“谁能替我们滚开墓口那块大石头呢？”她们抬头一看，那块大石头已经滚到一旁。她们进了坟墓，看见一位身穿洁白长袍的青年坐在右边，吓了一跳。那青年对她们说：“不要害怕，你们要找那位被钉十字架的拿撒勒人耶稣吗？祂已经复活了，不在这里。你们看！这是安放祂的地方。你们快回去，告诉祂的门徒，特别是彼得，‘祂先你们一步去了加利利，你们将在那里见到祂，正如祂以前所说的一样。’”她们从坟墓出来，跑走了，战战兢兢，疑惑不已，什么也没有告诉他人，因为她们很害怕。
