分封王希律聽說了所發生的這一切，就感到困惑，因為有些人說：「約翰從死人中復活了。」也有些人說：「以利亞顯現了。」還有些人說：「古時候的一位先知復活了。」但希律卻說：「我已經砍了約翰的頭，而這個人又是誰呢？我竟聽到關於他這樣的事！」於是希律就想要見他。

耶穌對他們說：「你們一定會用這句諺語對我說：『醫生啊，使你自己痊癒吧！』，『我們聽見在迦百農所發生的事，你在你的家鄉這裡也應該做！』」
