When it was already evening, because it was the day of preparation( that is, the day before the Sabbath),Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward to the kingdom of God, came and boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body.Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had already died.When he found out from the centurion, he gave the corpse to Joseph.After he bought some linen cloth, Joseph took him down and wrapped him in the linen. Then he laid him in a tomb cut out of the rock and rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching where he was laid.

They said,“ Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who has a good reputation with the whole Jewish nation, was divinely directed by a holy angel to call you to his house and to hear a message from you.”

He was a devout man and feared God along with his whole household. He did many charitable deeds for the Jewish people and always prayed to God.

When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it be released.So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen,and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the tomb.

for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And large numbers of people were added to the Lord.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus— but secretly because of his fear of the Jews— asked Pilate that he might remove Jesus’s body. Pilate gave him permission; so he came and took his body away.Nicodemus( who had previously come to him at night) also came, bringing a mixture of about seventy-five pounds of myrrh and aloes.They took Jesus’s body and wrapped it in linen cloths with the fragrant spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews.There was a garden in the place where he was crucified. A new tomb was in the garden; no one had yet been placed in it.They placed Jesus there because of the Jewish day of preparation and since the tomb was nearby.

There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
