But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

He fell to his knees, shouting,“ Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone.He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.

“ But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you.Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.

Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.

to say to you:‘ Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you— for their sin in treating you so cruelly.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept.

I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

“ Friends, I realize that what you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance.

even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.

We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us.

They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin.Anyone who hates me also hates my Father.If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father.

When the Roman officer overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said,“ Surely this man was innocent.”And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow.

When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.So they said,“ Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says,“ They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.” So that is what they did.

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer:“ O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.

“ And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished.But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.

Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross. They divided his clothes and threw dice to decide who would get each piece.

Then Jesus said,“ You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

The people in the camp were jealous of Moses and envious of Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest.Because of this, the earth opened up; it swallowed Dathan and buried Abiram and the other rebels.Fire fell upon their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.The people made a calf at Mount Sinai; they bowed before an image made of gold.They traded their glorious God for a statue of a grass eating bull.They forgot God, their savior, who had done such great things in Egypt—such wonderful things in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Red Sea.So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the Lord and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.
