And they began to accuse him, saying,“ We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”

They began to bring charges against Jesus. They said,“ We have found this man misleading our people. He is against paying taxes to Caesar. And he claims to be Messiah, a king.”

And they began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”

They began to state their case:“ This man has been leading our people astray by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king.”

From that moment Pilate made every effort to release Him. But the Jews shouted,“ If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Anyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar!”

When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city officials, shouting,“ These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too,and Jason has received them as guests! They are all acting contrary to Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king— Jesus!”

and said to them,“ You have brought me this man as one who subverts the people. But in fact, after examining Him in your presence, I have found no grounds to charge this man with those things you accuse Him of.

Then seat two wicked men opposite him and have them testify against him, saying,“ You have cursed God and the king!” Then take him out and stone him to death.The men of his city, the elders and nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had commanded them, as was written in the letters she had sent them.They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth at the head of the people.The two wicked men came in and sat opposite him. Then the wicked men testified against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying,“ Naboth has cursed God and the king!” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.

In one month I got rid of three shepherds. I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.

However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are accused, those who denounce your Christian life will be put to shame.For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring you to God, after being put to death in the fleshly realm but made alive in the spiritual realm.

The officials then said to the king,“ This man ought to die, because he is weakening the morale of the warriors who remain in this city and of all the people by speaking to them in this way. This man is not seeking the well-being of this people, but disaster.”

Bringing them before the chief magistrates, they said,“ These men are seriously disturbing our city. They are Jewsand are promoting customs that are not legal for us as Romans to adopt or practice.”

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

For I have heard the gossip of many people,“ Terror is on every side! Report him; let’s report him!” Everyone I trusted watches for my fall.“ Perhaps he will be deceived so that we might prevail against him and take our vengeance on him.”

They only plan to bring him down from his high position. They take pleasure in lying; they bless with their mouths, but they curse inwardly. Selah

For we have found this man to be a plague, an agitator among all the Jews throughout the Roman world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes!

Then Jesus told them,“ Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were amazed at Him.

But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.”They all asked,“ Are You, then, the Son of God?” And He said to them,“ You say that I am.”

But He kept silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest questioned Him,“ Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”“ I am,” said Jesus,“ and all of you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things.Then Pilate questioned Him again,“ Are You not answering anything? Look how many things they are accusing You of!”But Jesus still did not answer anything, so Pilate was amazed.

“ Caesar’s,” they said to Him. Then He said to them,“ Therefore give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim bitter words like arrows,shooting from concealed places at the innocent. They shoot at him suddenly and are not afraid.They encourage each other in an evil plan; they talk about hiding traps and say,“ Who will see them?”They devise crimes and say,“ We have perfected a secret plan.” The inner man and the heart are mysterious.

But they kept insisting,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where He started even to here.”

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus so they could put Him to death.But they could not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. Finally, two who came forward

Malicious witnesses come forward; they question me about things I do not know.

They watched closely and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, so they could catch Him in what He said, to hand Him over to the governor’s rule and authority.They questioned Him,“ Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You don’t show partiality, but teach truthfully the way of God.Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”But detecting their craftiness, He said to them,“ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?”“ Caesar’s,” they said.“ Well then,” He told them,“ give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.”

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but they could find none.For many were giving false testimony against Him, but the testimonies did not agree.

“ But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin. Take it and give it to them for Me and you.”

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”“ That’s a lie,” Jeremiah replied.“ I am not deserting to the Chaldeans!” Irijah would not listen to him but apprehended Jeremiah and took him to the officials.The officials were angry at Jeremiah and beat him and placed him in jail in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it had been made into a prison.

Neither can they provide evidence to you of what they now bring against me.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you right here in the house of Israel. The land cannot endure all his words,

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,“ Is that you, you destroyer of Israel?”

Then Pilate went back into the headquarters, summoned Jesus, and said to Him,“ Are You the King of the Jews?”Jesus answered,“ Are you asking this on your own, or have others told you about Me?”“ I’m not a Jew, am I?” Pilate replied.“ Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me. What have You done?”“ My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus.“ If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. As it is, My kingdom does not have its origin here.”“ You are a king then?” Pilate asked.“ You say that I’m a king,” Jesus replied.“ I was born for this, and I have come into the world for this: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.”
