And they began to accuse him, saying,“ We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”

They began to bring charges against Jesus. They said,“ We have found this man misleading our people. He is against paying taxes to Caesar. And he claims to be Messiah, a king.”

They began to state their case:“ This man has been leading our people astray by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king.”

They began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation, opposing payment of taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king.”

And they began to bring charges against Him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

And they began to accuse Him, saying,“ We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.

From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out,“ If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.”

And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting,“ These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”

and said to them,“ You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.

And set two worthless men opposite him, and let them bring a charge against him, saying,‘ You have cursed God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”And the men of his city, the elders and the leaders who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them. As it was written in the letters that she had sent to them,they proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people.And the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him. And the worthless men brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying,“ Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.

In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.

having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

Then the officials said to the king,“ Let this man be put to death, for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the welfare of this people, but their harm.”

And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said,“ These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city.They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.”

They answered him,“ If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side!“ Denounce him! Let us denounce him!” say all my close friends, watching for my fall.“ Perhaps he will be deceived; then we can overcome him and take our revenge on him.”

They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah

For we have found this man a plague, one who stirs up riots among all the Jews throughout the world and is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Jesus said to them,“ Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at him.

But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”So they all said,“ Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them,“ You say that I am.”

But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him,“ Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”And Jesus said,“ I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

And the chief priests accused him of many things.And Pilate again asked him,“ Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.

They said,“ Caesar’s.” Then he said to them,“ Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows,shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear.They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking,“ Who can see them?”They search out injustice, saying,“ We have accomplished a diligent search.” For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

But they were urgent, saying,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”

Now the chief priests and the whole Council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward

Malicious witnesses rise up; they ask me of things that I do not know.

So they watched him and sent spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might catch him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor.So they asked him,“ Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality, but truly teach the way of God.Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?”But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,“ Show me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said,“ Caesar’s.”He said to them,“ Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Now the chief priests and the whole Council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none.For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree.

However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”

When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”And Jeremiah said,“ It is a lie; I am not deserting to the Chaldeans.” But Irijah would not listen to him, and seized Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

Neither can they prove to you what they now bring up against me.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,“ Is it you, you troubler of Israel?”

So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him,“ Are you the King of the Jews?”Jesus answered,“ Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?”Pilate answered,“ Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?”Jesus answered,“ My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”Then Pilate said to him,“ So you are a king?” Jesus answered,“ You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world— to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
